Harlesden Methodist triumph in the GMF fun games

The Harlesden Methodist local Ghanaian fellowship triumphed in this year’s Ghanaian Methodist Fellowship-UK Chaplaincy fun games. The yearly event was held on Monday 26th May 2014, at Burgess Park, Camberwell in London.

The North West fellowship was among the first to arrive at the park in the washout, and their determination was paid off after winning all competitions except the football. Harlesden Methodist local fellowship took home 4 trophies as winners of boys, girls, men and women divisions. The other trophy went to the Walworth Methodist church, Camberwell as champions of the football game. Other individuals won medals for their participation and contribution to the event.

Despite the bad weather, over 200 people of all ages and nationalities joined the event either as participants or spectators. A number of Ministers came to the event to support their members including Revd Stephen Poxon, St Mark Methodist church, Tottenham, Revd Patrick Kandeh, Upper Tooting Methodist church, Revd Eric Mustapher, Walworth Methodist church. Also present was Mr Ben Twumasi, a minister in training and Revd Patrick Kofi Amissah, who came from Wales to join in the fun.

Though delayed for over an hour due to the weather, once it got started it soon proved that people weren’t going to allow the rain spoil their fun. The game officials had a hectic time as more than required people turned up to register for their respective fellowships. Some churches took part for the first time including Aldershot Methodist church.

For the first time, we had BBQ alongside the games. Fellowships and individuals brought meat, fish, plantain and all kinds of food to feed the many participants and spectators.

The cheer leaders were at their best. They sung, danced and joked all day long to the admiration of many people.
