The Effiakuma Circuit of the Methodist Church Ghana in the Sekondi Diocese has donated an amount of three thousand Ghana Cedis to the Rafiki Orphanage in Gyahadze at Winneba in the Central Region. The donation forms part of the church’s social responsibility and activities to mark the 25th anniversary of the circuit.
Presenting the amount and the items to the management of the orphanage, the superintendent Minister of the Effiakuma Circuit Methodist Church, Very Rev. Emmanuel Kwesi Arhin said the gesture was in response to the fire disaster that recently gutted the orphanage kitchen, stores and other facilities called for help from the church in particular. According to him, the church was committed to helping the less privileged in society and it was in recognition of this that they decided to donate amount, cloth among others to alleviate their plight.
Very Rev. Arhin again posited that the time has come for the Christian community to give back to society particularly the afflicted and needy to enhance their lives. “The less privileged in society need the church to assure them that there is faith in Christ Jesus and being kind to them will help to avert some of the social vices we are witnessing today”, he added.
He therefore called on parents to plan their families in order not to put the gift of life which are children from God in danger.
On his part, the manager of the orphanage, Very Rev. Ekow Sey thanked the circuit for the gesture to help give meaning to the lives of the innocent children whom through no fault of theirs found themselves in harsh conditions.
He recounted that the Orphanage was established in 2007 with 5 children but presently serve as a home to 35 children with the oldest being 13 years and the least under one year.
He also called on the society, social and corporate bodies and benevolent to assist the centre with resources to increase their capacity to admit more needy orphans into the centre.
Very Rev. Ekow Sey further explained the centre has its own school facility which is also opened to the communities surrounding it; psychologist and ministers who help to train the children in a manner that makes it easier to integrate them into society.
